Mechanic

Enjoy a team atmosphere while working on a wide variety of mechanical equipment! Join us! We are currently hiring a Mechanic position in the Fleet Division of the Community Services Department. This position performs skilled mechanical work in the maintenance, servicing, and repair of automotive, truck, and other mechanical equipment, including preventive maintenance, and general and major overhaul work on equipment with diesel and gasoline engines. Duties include repairing and maintaining mechanical devices such as transmissions, clutches, hydraulic lifts, generators, differentials, starters, and alternators; performing motor tune-ups and electrical repairs; using a computer to process work orders; and much more!


Requirements:

  • Possess or obtain (within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
  • Possess or obtain (within 6 months of hire) and maintain a valid Wisconsin Class B CDL with no air brake restrictions
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, etc.)
  • Furnish a complete set of hand tools

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Two years of experience or an associate degree in automotive repair and maintenance, heavy duty diesel mechanic, or a related field
  • ASE Master Truck or Automotive Technician certification in diesel/gasoline engines

Typical work schedule:

  • Regular hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • Summer hours: 4 days per week, 10 hours a day


Wage range: $26.57 to $36.74 per hour, depending on qualifications.
