Join us for YP's next Professional Development series event, Power Hour. In this series, we will focus on various crucial topics and challenges that young professionals face today. This time, we will cover the topic of communication and uncomfortable conversations.
Series Description: Throughout the year, we will host leaders from the Chippewa Valley in candid discussions about crucial topics and challenges young professionals face. Each panel will consist of local professionals who will share their personal success stories and obstacles they've overcome. A moderated discussion will be led by a YP Professional Development Committee member with the ability for Q&A from attendees at any time.
We all face difficult conversations at work—but how we approach them can define our growth and reputation. Don't miss the chance to participate in an honest and practical panel discussion about Uncomfortable Conversations in the Workplace. Our panel of seasoned professionals will share strategies, personal experiences, and expert advice on navigating tough topics like:
• Receiving and giving constructive feedback
• Speaking to leadership about a colleague or personal matter
• Setting healthy boundaries with clients
• Asking for a raise or promotion
• Addressing conflicts when personal and professional lines blur
Whether you're managing up, leading a team, or just trying to find your voice, this conversation will empower you with tools to handle workplace discomfort with confidence and professionalism.

More About Our Panelists:
Brad Polacek, Xcel Energy - Brad Polacek is the Control Center Manager for Xcel Energy NPS Wisconsin. He has worked for Xcel Energy since 2005 and has worn many hats within the company. He started his career at Xcel as a fleet mechanic and eventually honed his knowledge and skillset to move into an electrical lineman position. He held that position for 10 years, where he was presented an opportunity to move into a managerial role with the electrical line workers, which he held for 4 years until moving into his current position. When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife who keeps me grounded, my two children, as well as fishing, hunting, dancing, traveling, and spending time outdoors.
Dr. Sunem Beaton-Garcia, CVTC - Dr. Sunem Beaton-Garcia, Ed.D., is the eleventh President of Chippewa Valley Technical College, becoming the first woman and first Latina to lead the College as of July 2021.She has more than 25 years of instructional experience in education, nearly half of which are in higher education. Her career includes notable accomplishments for a culture of collaboration and teaching excellence, transformational academic programs and innovation in student support, community engagement, and resource generation and stewardship. Dr. Beaton-Garcia is a passionate advocate for the community and the College, exemplified through her service on various local, state, and national boards. Under her guidance, CVTC has earned acclaim as a college supportive of military personnel and has fostered a workplace environment conducive to family well-being.
Jill Taylor, Trust Point - Jill Taylor is the Chief Administrative Officer at Trust Point Inc. In her role Jill oversees all aspects of Human Resources including organizational development, performance management, training, recruiting, employee benefits and HR compliance. Jill has been with Trust Point since 2004 and started out as an HR “team of one”. Throughout her career she was had the opportunity to watch the company double in staff size and expand her “team of one” to a “team of four”. When she is not at work or spending time with her family you can find her outdoors – kayaking, boating, biking or just working in her yard.
